Week 2: Cartography and Map of UWF Campus Location

This week I learned about the history of cartography and GIS. I have always been interested in cartography, but never looked too far into its origins and history, leaving me excited to learn more about this ancient artform and the impact it has had on the world and on modern day GIS.

Using data provided, I created this map of the University of West Florida's main campus location within Escambia County, FL. Unlike my first map, I was able to apply essential map elements I've learned since such as a title, legend, scale bar, north star, and data sources. I kept the elements of this map pretty simple, as I didn't want it to be too distracting, and was still getting used to using ArcGIS Pro. For future projects, I will be experimenting further with font types, shapes, and colors to find my own style and give my maps more personality while still being effective.
