Week 2: Cartography and Map of UWF Campus Location

Image
This week I learned about the history of cartography and GIS. I have always been interested in cartography, but never looked too far into its origins and history, leaving me excited to learn more about this ancient artform and the impact it has had on the world and on modern day GIS.      Using data provided, I created this map of the University of West Florida's main campus location within Escambia County, FL. Unlike my first map, I was able to apply essential map elements I've learned since such as a title, legend, scale bar, north star, and data sources. I kept the elements of this map pretty simple, as I didn't want it to be too distracting, and was still getting used to using ArcGIS Pro. For future projects, I will be experimenting further with font types, shapes, and colors to find my own style and give my maps more personality while still being effective.

Week 1: ArcGIS Pro Overview and First Map

This week I learned the very basics of ArcGIS Pro, including key terminology and how to navigate the software. I used files provided to me to create this crude map of the world and its major cities. Although didn't have any input on the core information of this map, I enjoyed browsing and playing with all of the customizable properties, and getting familiar with ArcGIS Pro as a whole. I am very excited to continue practicing my proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and create better maps in the future.

Excited for GIS!
